     UDAIPUR

The Romantic City for Tourists

Founded in the middle of the 16th century by Maharana Udai Singh, Udaipur was the capital of Mewar state. Mewar was noted for the strong resistance shown to Moghul rulers. Nestling on the shores of Lake Pichola, the City Palace is imposing as the largest palace in Rajasthan. Within the lake are the Jag Mandir and Jag Nivas palaces.

All around Udaipur are lakes and shrines of white marble interspersed with trees.
Notable excursions from Udaipur include visit to the Eklingji temple at Nathdwara, the Chittore fort, Haldighati- the site of Maharana Pratap’s heroic fight against Akbar and the exquisite Jain temples of Ranakpur.

Udaipur is famous for its marble, handicrafts and miniature paintings.
